IRLP Presentation
K6JSI aka "Shorty" gave a great power point presentation to 53 amateur operators on the WIN System (Western Intertie Network) and IRLP in Willits on February 27, 2010.  Operators from the MCARS, the WARS, the NARCs and the LCARS showed up for the class.  Len, WA6KLK was instrumental in getting the word out about the class and inviting everyone. Thank you Len!

The 2 hour presentation provided a lot of information for all who went.  Shorty K6JSI discussed everything from how to get started with IRLP to
what the WIN System is and how to link a repeater to it.  For mor information, visit Shorty's website: http://www.winsystem.org/.

2009 LAKE COUNTY FAIR

We had a successful turnout for the radio communication volunteers for the Red Cross and the LCARS Booth at the Lake County Fair on September 3-6, 2009. Thank you to all who helped. Members from both of our local clubs supported this event.  Thank you NARC Members and LCARS Members!
Arland (KI6WFP) was instrumental in getting everything set up, but he could not have done it without the help of all volunteers.  Ron (KN6U), Loraine (KG6YSA) and Gunter (KE6HNJ) were there every day.  THANK YOU!  Others who came in for assorted shifts were Brenda (KI6WFU), Dave (N1PPP), Karen (KI6SAH), Jeremy (KI6UGA), Frank (KI6LUK), Gary (KF6EIA) William (KJ6BPP), Kristine (KI6YYW) and Bob (WA6MLG).  (I apologize if I missed anyone!)  It was definitely a success!
We were able to help the Red Cross with 2 emergencies.  One little girl lost a very special sweater, (which was found) and there was a little girl missing for a short time.  She was found within 4 minutes of the announcement going out that she was missing! Way to go team!  We worked together with the Sheriff's Department and the Red Cross to reunite the mother and child.  This was a great example of the ham community coming together to support our "hobby".  This is what it is all about!
We talked to quite a few people that have their ham license, but were not aware of the clubs, so we may start seeing more people show up to our meetings! We also saw a lot of people who showed interest in getting their licence. Listen for the new call signs!

JULY 30, 2009 LCARS BBQ & FOXHUNT

Thank you to everyone for making the LCARS BBQ and Foxhunt a success.  It was a hot day, but we had a great location in the shade.  Thank you to Ken KG6TXU for the delicious chicken!  Everyone brought a little pot luck dish which made for a diverse meal!  Thank you to all!  Looking forward to doing it again!

We had a few deployments of teams going out to look for the fox.  The first team deployed shortly after 9:00am I believe, and found the fox in 18 minutes.  Then a few other teams went out to look as well.

The best time recorded for this fox hunt was 11 minutes by the team of Brenda Henley and Kristine Souza.  It was a lot of fun!  Thank you to Cody and Cynthia for all of your help and for the use of your fox!!!

FIELD DAY 2009

OK ALL! ANOTHER YEAR OF FIELD DAY HAS COME AND GONE!  AND WHAT A DAY!  IT WAS A HOT ONE IN LAKEPORT THIS YEAR.  OVER 100 DEGREES!  BUT, DESPITE THE HEAT, WE DID PRETTY GOOD.  WE HAD 96 CONTACTS WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE.

ALONG WITH THE GREAT WEATHER, WE HAD A GORGEOUS VIEW. LOOKING OUT OVER CLEARLAKE FROM A HILL IN LAKEPORT. WE WERE IN A LARGE EMPTY PARKING LOT NEXT TO THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AT AN ELEVATION OF APPROXIMATELY 1343 FT.  WE BROUGHT PLENTY OF ARTIFICIAL SHADE FOR EVERYONE WITH THE CAMPER THAT STAYED OVERNIGHT AND THE EASY-UP GAZEBOS.

WE HAD A FEW VISITORS JOIN US IN THE FUN.  THEN WE TOOK A BREAK AND HAD A BBQ.  THERE WERE QUITE A FEW OF US THAT STAYED LATE INTO THE NIGHT TRYING TO MAKE CONTACTS.

AS A RULE, OUR CLUB DOES THIS FOR FUN, NOT THE CONTEST, BUT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW WE RATED AGAINST SOME OF THE OTHER LOCAL FIELD DAY LOCATIONS, DON'T YOU THINK?  I KNOW I HAVE SEEN SOME CLUBS FROM OTHER STATES THAT GOT OVER 1000 CONTACTS, BUT NOW WE HAVE SOMETHING TO AIM FOR!  HOPE TO TALK TO YOU ALL NEXT YEAR!

I WANT TO GIVE SOME "THANK YOU'S" TO SOME OF THE MEMBERS THAT WENT THE EXTRA MILE AND HELPED A LOT!

W6SBD
FOR THE USE OF YOUR CALL SIGN.

KG6TXU FOR HELPING WITH SET UP AND BRINGING THE CAMPER.  THAT WAS GREAT FOR THE SHADE, THE GENERATOR AND THE REFRIGERATOR!

KI6BXC FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP WITH SET UP AND FOR STAYING OVERNIGHT TO KEEP THE RADIOS SAFE!

KF6EIA, KI6LUK & KE6HMJ FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK WITH SET UP AND TEAR DOWN, AND ALSO FOR THE USE OF PERSONAL EQUIPMENT.

W6ULT & KI6LUM FOR YOUR HELP WITH SET UP.

THIS WAS A GROUP EFFORT AND I THINK EVERYONE DID A GREAT JOB! WAY TO GO ALL!

IF I FORGOT TO MENTION SOMEONE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE ANYONE OUT THAT DESERVES CREDIT!
